Citizens and Communities in Action

“A European CommUnity for Inclusion and Participation"

The OLYMPICEU project includes four international events that take place in Italy and Greece, each one focused on dialogue, inclusion and participation. During these meetings, citizens, institutions and associations work together to promote equality, build trust and celebrate Europe’s shared values. Every event combines workshops, discussions, cultural visits and moments of exchange — continuing the spirit of the ancient Olympic tradition through modern civic engagement

“Increasing civic engagement among marginalized groups”

October 9 – 12 /10.2025

📍 Olympia – Andravida-Killini – Pyrgos – Ancient Olympia (Greece)

The first transnational event of the OLYMPICEU project took place in Ancient Olympia from 9 to 12 October 2025. The meeting gathered citizens, young people, representatives of local authorities, social workers and community groups from Italy and Greece to explore new ways of strengthening civic engagement among marginalized groups.

Participants took part in workshops, focus groups, discussions and study visits focused on inclusion, equal participation and digital civic tools. The event successfully fostered cooperation between municipalities and set the foundations for the next stages of the project.

Calabria: Building Trust between Citizens and Local Authorities

4–8 May 2026

Pyrgos: Promoting Social Inclusion and Accessible Civic Participation

24–28 January 2026

Andravida-Kyllini: Advancing Gender Equality in Civic Leadership

 13–17 March 2026

The fourth transnational event will focus on rebuilding and strengthening trust between citizens and local authorities through dialogue, transparency, and active collaboration. Surveys and focus groups conducted in Italy and Greece will assess current levels of trust and identify key communication barriers. Citizens and public officials will jointly participate in trust-building workshops designed to promote open communication, accountability, and mutual understanding. The event will also introduce practical tools such as digital platforms and interactive channels that allow citizens to access information, report issues, and engage directly with their local governments. By fostering regular and structured opportunities for cooperation, this event will contribute to more transparent and participatory local governance across the partner territories.

The third transnational event will focus on advancing gender equality in civic leadership by empowering women to take active roles in local governance and decision-making processes. Through surveys and focus groups, participants will identify the main cultural and systemic barriers that limit women’s representation and leadership in civic life in Italy and Greece. Training sessions and the creation of women-led civic forums will provide safe and inclusive spaces for women to discuss community issues, propose solutions, and advocate for local change. These forums will also engage younger women, ethnic minorities, and women with disabilities, ensuring diverse participation. Cooperation with local authorities will guarantee that the proposals emerging from these activities are incorporated into local governance structures and policy discussions.

The second transnational event will focus on promoting social inclusion and accessibility within civic participation. Activities will aim to remove the physical, digital and cultural barriers that prevent marginalized groups from engaging in local governance. Surveys and focus groups in Italy and Greece will identify the main obstacles faced by women, youth, ethnic minorities, the elderly and people with disabilities. Training and capacity-building sessions will equip local authorities with practical tools and guidelines to make civic processes more inclusive and to organize public consultations that are open and accessible to everyone.
